Lake Oconee Surf Day

Along with the GCSU wake club, we're pushing the area surfing and board-riding momentum forward with community, surfing, prizes, and food at Lake Oconee on Saturday, 7/17.

We’ll be at the Pavilion at Old Salem Park starting at 12pm and you can join us there or bring your boat! Old Salem Park is located at 1530 Old Salem Rd, Greensboro, GA 30642 and is just south of the State Route 44 bridge.

RSVP below and check out out more details in our FAQ's!

Timeline
12-1pm: Get settled, grab some food, meet us by land at the pavilion/beach or by boat in the cove.
1pm: We'll kick off the competition for the prizes. We'll coordinate runs out of the cove or you can participate out of the cove on your own. Tag @gcsuwake and @surfatl, or use #surfatl or #lakeoconeesurfday.
2:30pm: Surf parade and prizes announced. Meet in the cove and we'll coordinate a short surf parade down the lake and back.

FAQ's

Why are you having a surf day?
We know there are a ton of surfers -- wake surfers, ocean surfers, paddle boarders -- and board riders in the Lake Oconee area and we want to create a stronger community and bring all of us together!

Is this event open to the public?
Yes!

What if I don't wake surf or surf at all?
That's OK! Come on out and get involved. Bring your paddleboard, kayak, wakeboard, or just yourself!

Do I need to bring my own boat or can I come without a boat?
Either is fine! If you bring your boat, there are docks and ramps near the Old Salem Park Pavilion. If you don't have a boat, there is parking by the Pavilion itself.

Will there be wake surfing lessons?
As of today, we are not planning lessons. However, if you have not wake surfed or have only wake surfed a little, come on out! It is less about ability and more about community!

What time will the wake surf parade start and from where?
We will plan to start the parade at 2:30 pm near the cove by the Old Salem Park beach/Pavilion shown in the image above. We will stagger boats out of the cove and we expect everyone to follow standard boat safety protocols.

What else should I know?
We will have prizes for most stoke and best trick from the day based on videos submitted and/or tagged on social media. Tag @gcsuwake and @surfatl, or use #surfatl or #lakeoconeesurfday.

If I want to help out, sponsor, or have more questions, who should I reach out to?
